Definition:
Infection by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) or Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) provided: the infection arises during the normal course of duties: of any occupation which provides accident or emergency, medical, dental, or nursing services, in the police, or in the prison service. The infection results from contact with a person or medical instrument infected with HIV. The contact happens in the United Kingdom after the policy starts and is reported, investigated and documented according to the procedures established for the relevant occupation and a test is made within 5 days of the contact which shows no HIV or HIV antibodies and is followed by a further test within 12 months which shows infection by HIV or AIDS.
