Definition:

Permanent and irreversible loss of hearing to the extent that the loss is greater than 95 decibels across all frequencies in the better ear using a pure tone audiogram.

What does this mean?

Loss of hearing may be caused by illness or by a serious accident. The loss must be permanent and irreversible. If the loss is only temporary, it would not be covered by the definition.
